From a rural childhood in the Cascade Mountains of Washington State and an urban adolescence in Seattle, I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. I’ve taught in the multicultural worlds of both Seattle Public Schools and Black Forest Academy in southwestern Germany, both experiences that cemented a lifelong love for students, learning and literature.
After eight years living overseas, my family has recently moved back to the Pacific Northwest of my childhood. While being the mom of two little girls fills my days lately, I also have a corner of time (and a good deal of passion) for hikes in the mountains, interesting books and learning to bake the perfect loaf of sourdough bread.
I’m a wife, a mother and a writer, learning to see God everywhere and seeking to pursue a life of grace and wisdom.

I am your 2nd cousin! my dad is Larry Dahlstrom who is cousins with your dad (I think that is the connection?) Anyways just by happenstance I am considering possibly going to black forest to volunteer, it is still a very preliminary idea. I saw your letter to my parents and thought I would just touch base and get some insight into the program. Hello Kristi–we go to your dad’s church and our family has been greatly blessed by his teaching. We have followed you from afar and it is great to read your blog. Love what you and your husband are doing at Blackforest A. Our friends Isabella and Marco Biscarini attended there for a few years. They are both back in the states now. I believe their parents plan to head back to Italy in the near future. Blessings on the birth of your daughter. How fun for you and your husband to have your parents so close by!
I discovered your space last night, and it came at a critical time. On Friday, I received my job offer from BFA, and I’d been holding it lightly, asking God if I’m hearing Him right before committing. Your many posts both intimidated me and called to me – come and see what He has planned for this season of MY life in the ongoing flow of students’ lives in that unique place.
